Tidbinbilla

Today we visited the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve with Carol’s mom.  The giant antennas at the complex communicate with distant spacecraft, like the Voyager probes at the outer edge of our solar system.

The dish of DSS-43 is 230 feet wide making it the largest steerable parabolic antenna in the Southern Hemisphere.
A distant view of the complex. The antenna on the right (in the “birdbath” position) received the first few minutes of Neil Armstrong’s moon walk broadcast.
A distant flock of emus near the entrance of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
An Eastern Grey kangaroo.
Another Eastern Grey.
Jean and Carol in the distance with two roos watching the watchers.
Old man emu.
You can really see the roo’s shaggy winter coat in this shot.
