President Obama

President Obama came to Australia for a brief visit in November.  Just before he left Canberra, he stopped by the Embassy to speak to the employees and their families.  Chris and Carrie were able to stand in a reserved section right next to the President.

Chris and Carrie each wrote their remembrances of meeting the President and we’ve included them at the following links:

Carrie’s memories of the President

Chris’s memories of the President

The kids wait patiently for the President to arrive. Chris is holding the highest flag on the left and Carrie is in the Hawaiian dress on the right.
Ambassador Bleich (aka Elvis from Halloween) introduces the President.
The President spoke for about 10 minutes, thanking the Embassy employees for their hard work.
We gave Carrie a camera since she was in the front row and she took this picture during the President’s remarks.
After his remarks the President shook hands with as many people as he could. Chris is on the right in this shot. When the President shook his hand, Chris said “Welcome to Australia, Barack Obama!”
Carrie also took this photo just before she shook hands with the President. She tells us he said “Hello, darling!” to her.
As the President continued down the receiving line, Carrie took this picture…
…and there she is taking the picture.
We were all pleased for the opportunity.
