We had an amazing first full day in New Zealand. Here are some pictures of our adventures.
The three Cs on the Kaikora whale-watching cruise with the snowy peaks in the background.A sperm whale, named Mah-Te by the tour company, breaks the surface after a 40 minute dive.He has a nice view from this part of the ocean. After a few minutes on the surface, he dove again to feed.A stretching fur seal.On the way back to shore we came across this pod of dusky dolphins. There were between 100 and 200 of them all around the boat.Three jumping dolphins. Many of them would jump into the air and splash back down. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves and some even seemed to be showing off..More acrobatics. This one did a back flip.Look how high this one jumped. If you look carefully you can just make out Frodo and Sam crossing Caradhras.Fur seals on taking a rest on some rocks near the shoreline.A particularly cute one of the bunch. The first baby fur seal we came across when hiking up the trail along the Ohau stream.Chris and Carrie at the Ohau waterfall. There were about 30 young fur seals frolicking in the pool. The photos don’t begin to do it justice. Here you can more clearly see the some of the seals by and on the rocks.
