New Zealand Day 2

Our second full day in New Zealand had us visiting the International Antarctic Center then traveling from Christchurch to Dunedin along the eastern coast of South Island.  The weather was overcast so we didn’t see much of the countryside.  Here are a few of our pictures from the day.

We started the day at the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch. This unusual sign greeted us at the car park.
One of the Centre’s attractions was a cold weather chamber where donned heavy coats and experienced an Antarctic storm (although with a wind chill of only -2 degrees Fahrenheit it was really only as cold as a mild Minot winter day).
There were many Little Penguins living in the Centre.
We also got a wild ride in a Hagglund, an all terrain amphibious Antarctic vehicle, which rivals the wildest Disney rides.
On our drive south to Dunedin we came across the town of Rakaia’s big salmon which rivals even Australia’s impressive selection of “big”, and slightly ridiculous, displays.
We reached our destination, Larnach Castle, shortly after sunset. We are staying at the Larnach Lodge “boutique” accommodation. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of photos to share after we tour the grounds tomorrow.
C&C are pleased with their fancy room in the Larnach Lodge.
